Sorts Muld is a Danish electronic folk band that has existed since 1995. The name "varieties Muld" means "dark earth". The band won two Danish Grammys for their album Mark II . The band members used to play rock music .

style

Their music is characterized by elegantly composed rhythms and flowing sounds typical instruments of folk music as bagpipes , flute and violin in Electronica -typical compositions that accentuate the dramatic texts. A music critic on the US National Public Radio network described Ulla Bendixen's singing as "... a sensuous whisper cajoling you to listen, even if you don't understand Danish."

The instruments (with the exception of album III ) are not played by hand, but their sounds are reassembled as loops and supplemented by electronically synthesized sounds. This concept of music production became generally known in the early 1980s by the synth-pop band Depeche Mode and is carried over to folk music byarten Muld. Some rhythmic pieces on Mark II with only a few text passages are more like trip-hop or techno .

The lyrics are old stories from Danish folklore about envy, killers and creatures. In Kirstin from Mark II, a father serves his daughter a meal prepared from the heart of her loved one. In Ulver, from Mark III , a man takes his unsuspecting sweetheart into the forest to kill and bury her there. He falls asleep and instead she chops him to pieces with his own sword.

Sorts Muld has also released the concept album Jord, Luft, Ild, Vand ("Earth, Air, Fire, Water"), which describes a mainly instrumental journey through the classic four elements . The album is a post-processed recording of a live concert on Bornholm .
