Soulja Slim
Soulja Slim (born September 9, 1977 , † November 26, 2003 in Gentilly, New Orleans , Louisiana ; real name James Adarryl Tapp, Jr. ) was an American rapper from the Magnolia Projects in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Career
In 1994 Slim released his debut album The Dark Side on Hype Enough Records. His artist name at the time was "Magnolia Slim". In 1998 the rapper released his album Give It 2 'Em Raw on the No Limit Records label founded by Master P in 1994 under the stage name "Soulja Slim". It reached number 13 on the US album charts and number 4 on the R&B charts. From What I Was Told was released as a single . A music video was also created for the song.
Soulja Slim's third album Streets Made Me , which was released in 2001 after serving a prison sentence for armed robbery , was again released via No Limit Records. The rapper then founded his own label Cut Throat Records, which he used as a platform for the release of the album Years Later at the end of 2002 . In 2003, Slim's last album, Years Later ... A Few Months After , was released, which includes the single I'll Pay for It .
On November 26, 2003, Tapp was shot dead on the way to a concert in front of his mother's house in New Orleans' 8th Ward. He was killed by two bullets in the chest and three bullets in the head.
Soulja Slim only had its biggest hit posthumously. With the rapper Juvenile he had started to record the track Slow Motion . After his sudden death, the single was completed without him and in 2004 under "Juvenile feat. Soulja Slim ”released. The rap song reached number 1 on the US charts and number 2 on the R&B charts.
