Sound of Sunshine - Sound of Rain is an American animated short film directed by Caroline Heyward in 1983.

action

A blind seven year old boy wakes up in the morning. From his point of view, you can hear how mother and daughter are talking about the right kind of care for the boy and how contrary opinions collide. His sister takes the boy to a park on her way to school. Here he enjoys the sun and meets the ice cream seller Abram. They both become friends, talk and Abram gives him an ice cream. The positive aspect in his life is contrasted with negative ones: later he goes with his sister into a grocery store, where the blind boy accidentally damages the window. The dealer is hostile to him and his sister and insults them, among other things, racially because of the color of their skin - the boy and his sister are African-American.

production

Sound of Sunshine - Sound of Rain is based on the book of the same name by Florence Parry Heide , which was published in 1970. The viewer experiences the events from the point of view of the boy, who describes sounds, colors and shapes in his own way. Tone, colors and shapes are presented in an abstract way. The narrator of the film is Ron Glass .
