The term Souramont (often also Suramunt ) refers to the two Buchensteiner communities Livinallongo del Col di Lana (Ladin Fodom, German Buchenstein) and Colle Santa Lucia (Ladin Col or Còl Santa Lizia, German Verseil) and Cortina d'Ampezzo (Ladin Anpezo or Ampëz, German outdated Hayden). Not to be confused with the municipality of Sovramonte in Belluno .

The three communities were part of Tyrol until after the First World War and were added to the province of Belluno in 1923 . Because of the low level of resistance during the Nazi era, because of a lack of understanding on the part of Alcide De Gasperi and also for fear of a new Pan-Germanism, this assignment was not revised after the Second World War . The originally predominant Ladin language is less promoted and protected in this part of Ladinia . This is one of the reasons why all three municipalities voted in a referendum in 2007 in favor of joining South Tyrol . The wishes of the population have not been met to this day. However, the European region Tyrol – South Tyrol – Trentino decided in the tripartite parliament of Schwaz in 2014 to grant the Souramont an observer role for increased cooperation.
