The South Pacific Tourism Organization (STPO), rarely South Pacific Tourism Organi z ation , is an intergovernmental organization for the promotion of tourism in the Pacific . It is headquartered in Suva , the capital of Fiji . Until 2004, the financing was mainly ensured by funds from the European Union . Since then, the People's Republic of China has largely taken over the financing.

The STPO was founded as an intergovernmental organization on October 18, 1999 in the Samoan capital Apia . It emerged from the Tourism Council of the South Pacific , which was formed in 1983 .
