The South Park is a park in the southern English town of Oxford . The approximately 20 hectare site is located on a hill; Next to Headington Hill Park , which is directly adjacent , is the largest park in the city - the 10 hectares larger University Parks north of the city center are owned by the University of Oxford . South Park consists to a large extent of open space and thus allows a view over the medieval old town of Oxford. To the northeast of the park are the properties of Oxford Brookes University and Cheney School .

Numerous events take place in the park itself: the annual Lord Mayors parade as well as the annual fireworks display of the Oxford Round Table . Because of its view, the park has been used as a location for numerous film and television productions that were shot in Oxford, as well as the open space for concerts.

Until 1939 the land was privately owned by the Morrell family, who also had their seat there and after whom Morrell Avenue , which now runs south along the park , is named. In 1939 the Oxford Preservation Trust acquired the park and handed it over to the City of Oxford in 1951. Directly opposite South Park is Headington Hill Park, the two are only separated by Headington Road , which connects Oxford with the eastern part of Headington and later with London .

The band Radiohead from Oxford held a mini festival in the park on the occasion of the album release of Amnesiac on July 7, 2001. In addition to Radiohead, Beck , Sigur Rós , Supergrass and Humphrey Lyttelton played . More than 40,000 people came - the largest crowd in the park to date.

In the 2010s, various fitness equipment was set up throughout the park and a spacious adventure playground was built in the east.
