The Southeast Financial Center (formerly Wachovia Financial Center ) is a 233 meter high skyscraper in the US city of Miami , in southern Florida . The 55-story high-rise was built between 1982 and 1983 and designed by the renowned architecture firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill . When completed, the building held the title of tallest building in the city and state for 20 years. It was only replaced by the 240-meter-high Four Seasons Hotel & Tower in 2003, and since then it has been the second tallest building.
In 2011, the building was renamed from its name Wachovia Financial Center back to the original name Southeast Financial Center, which it had carried from its construction until 1992. This name comes from the original builder of the structure, the Southeast Bank . The previous owner, Wachovia , was completely taken over by Wells Fargo in 2008 , as part of which the building was renamed again in 2011. From 1992 to 2003 it was named First Union Financial Center .
In the 1980s, the building made several appearances in the Miami Vice series.
