The University of Southern Mississippi (also Southern Miss called) is a state university in Hattiesburg in the US state of Mississippi . Along with Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi, it is one of the most important universities in Mississippi. The college was founded on March 30, 1910. There are currently 16,500 students enrolled. The university maintains a second campus in Long Beach .
