Space Debris is a band from southern Germany that produces instrumental music in the tradition of herb , psychedelic and hard rock of the early 1970s.

style

The band combines stylistic devices from Krautrock ( Can , Birth Control , Amon Düül etc.) and early British psychedelic rock ( Pink Floyd , Deep Purple , Brian Auger , Jimi Hendrix etc.) to create their own homogeneous music. The music press (Moonhead magazine March / 2005) therefore described Space Debris as the missing link between these two poles of music history. In doing so, the band makes use of the concept of spontaneous compositions, which was significantly advanced by the Krautband Can , in that a compositional framework is created from free play without consultation, which is melodic and rhythmic.

history

Conceptually and specifically, the band was launched in 2001 by Christian Jäger, who, in addition to playing the drums, also takes care of management, mixing + mastering and the band's artwork. The founding members are also Tommy Gorny (guitar / rarely also bass guitar) and Tom Kunkel (organ), who left and was replaced by Winnie Rimbach-Sator in 2008. So far, 20 records have been produced in-house - including 10 studio records - each of which is available on CD and most of them on vinyl . During the first few years the band was strengthened by various guest musicians in their own studio. The first editions of some LPs already achieve higher collector prices as single pieces. There is also a DVD "Into The Sun" of a complete concert by Space Debris, which was produced as part of a WDR Rockpalast filming of the Burg-Herzberg Festival 2006, which has also been released as a CD version on the in-akustik label . With the renewed appearance at the legendary Burg-Herzberg-Festival, Space Debris returned in 2015 to the place of their first great success. Another DVD of this performance has been available since February 2016, this time with visual-psychedelic special effects under the motto "Into The Moon".

Both with their third LP Three and their fourth Elephant Moon , the band made it into the ranking of the best annual releases of the readers of the Eclipsed rock magazine. She had appearances at the Zappanale 2007 and the Finkenbach Festival 2012 as well as in Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands. After the elaborately designed Triple LP Elephant Moon , released in 2008, there was a significant line-up change. The trio grew into a quartet with the bassist and Winnie Rimbach-Sator joined the band as a new keyboardist after two successful guest appearances. With this line-up, the band recorded the CD Live Ghosts , released in May 2009 , which was released in spring 2010 as a DLP including three bonus songs with the help of the Green Brain label . The band has had so-called archive CDs in their program since 2011, only Archive Volume 1 Journey To The Starglow Restaurant has now also been released on vinyl. The archive CD series, which has been growing since then, contains recordings from all band memberships since the band was founded.

Since appearing in 2012 at the Finkenbach Festival and the Freak Valley Festival up to and including autumn 2015 Mitja Besen (most recently at the Little Woodstock Festival) was on the bass guitar, with whom the 10th DLP "She's A Temple" in May 2013 has been published. The first studio DLP since 2008 with the title "Phonomorphosis" was also recorded in 2014 with this line-up and presents four 20-minute long tracks, each filling one side of the record. The cover painting is by Magic Petra, who also shot the front cover photos for the records “Live Ghosts” and “Elephant Moon” and who, as a singer, together with Christian Jäger in a 2015 band project, produced the LP / CD “Paisley Tree (Same) “Has published. Between 2013 and 2015 there were several live performances together with the Ax Genrich Band (ex Guru Guru guitarist) under the motto: "Masters of Kraut". In 2016 the band played as headliner at the Starkenburg Festival in Heppenheim with bassist Vroni Frisch, who has been a permanent member of the band since 2017, namely since performing at the "World Music Festival Loshausen" (see DLP "Mountain Ultimate") Bass is. Shortly before that, with bassist Janni Schmitt (who is also a tour member of the Miller Anderson Band and Pete York), the band released the double LP / CD "Behind The Gate" in 2017. This is the band's 6th regular studio record, not counting the "Archive" productions that have only been released on CD. In 2018 a music cassette "Spacedelic Odyssey" was released for the first time.
