Space Patrol is a British puppets - science fiction - television series of 1962. It was created by Roberta Leigh and Arthur Provis produces, previously with Gerry Anderson had cooperated; the series therefore has clear parallels to Anderson's Fireball XL5 series . In the USA , Space Patrol was broadcast under the title Planet Patrol to avoid confusion with the American television series of the same name . It was first broadcast from April 7, 1963 to June 11, 1964. Based on the series, a comic edition was also created ; the stories were written by Leigh, who also wrote all of the scripts for the television series.

In the year 2100 the earth , Venus and Mars together form the "United Galactic Organization" (UGO); The capital is New York City . Space Patrol is the Union's space police force . It is led by Colonel Raeburn, who is effectively supported by his Venusian assistant Marla. The actual patrol consists of Captain Larry Dart, the Venusier Slim and the Martian Husky and the spaceships Galasphere 34 and Galasphere 024 . Space Patrol is scientifically supported by the Irish professor Aloysius O'Brien O'Rourke Haggarty, known as "Pop", and his daughter Cassiopeia.
Space Patrol is responsible for the defense of all kinds of dangers, fights against alien invaders, criminals or insurgent robots and examines unusual natural phenomena.
Production notes
Leigh had previously produced The Adventures of Twizzle and Torchy the Battery Boy with Anderson , and Provis was a former business partner of Anderson. Leigh was the first female British film producer to have her own company. In addition to the UK, the series aired in the US, Canada and Australia .
Lore
The series was considered lost for decades until a collection of all episodes in 16 mm film format was found in Leigh's garage in the late 1990s . Only two episodes of the original 35 mm film version have survived. A complete DVD edition is available.
