The Spaekhugger (Spækhugger, Danish: Orca ) is a seaworthy sailing boat with a keel shape reminiscent of the back and fin of an orca whale. The Spaekhugger is sailed a lot on regattas and can accommodate a crew of 2 to 4 people.

Construction

The subscribed by Peter Bruun Spaekhugger is a Spitzgatter with canoe stern and spoon bow in GRP construction method. Outboards or built-in diesel engines are used as auxiliary drives.

There is a touring version with a round body (the Spaekhugger "F") and a regatta version with a narrower body with more space on the deck. The first hulls were made in 1969 and production in Denmark ended in the late 1970s. Since August 2004, are Swedish Limhamn Spaekhugger rebuilt on request.

Class association

In the Danish register of the Dansk Spækhugger Club there are still 358 sailable Spaekhuggers registered, the actual number of boats that are clear to sea is not exactly known. Over 500 pieces were built.
