The Spanish quill lizard ( Algyroides marchi ) is a species within the family of real lizards (Lacertidae). The scientific species name honors the Spanish banker Juan March .

features

The small, slender lizard has a moderately flattened body and large, weakly keeled back and small, granular side scales. The back color ranges from olive to reddish brown, the flanks are blackish and the belly is yellow. The throat is whitish to blue-gray in the male, whitish to light yellow in the female. The neck scales may be keeled in the male. In the female they are almost smooth.

The total length of the lizard is 14 to 15 centimeters.

The species occurs in mountain ranges in south-east Spain , especially at altitudes of 1000 and 1500 meters.

habitat

The species is often found in lush, herbaceous habitats near water with relatively high humidity . The diet of the Spanish quill lizard consists of insects , spiders and worms . Due to the small distribution area and the threat to the habitats, the species is listed as endangered in the IUCN Red List .
