features

Kiel lizards are slim and reach a maximum length of 15 centimeters. They have enlarged, strongly keeled and clapboard-like overlapping back scales, which are larger at least on the middle of the back than on the upper side of the tail. The scales on the flanks are small and smooth. Their color is mostly plain brown, darker at the top and lighter at the bottom. In contrast to the genus Psammodromus , the quill lizards wear a well-formed collar.
