The magnificent keel lizard ( Algyroides nigropunctatus ) is a reptile species from the family of real lizards (Lacertidae) and the genus of the keel lizards (Algyroides).

features

The slender, high-headed lizard has large keeled back scales and a long tail. The back is colored cinnamon brown to dark brown and has no black spots. The male's throat and neck are deep blue. The orange-red belly often has a yellow central zone, while the belly edge shields are partly blue. The smaller female has a yellow-greenish to pale orange-colored belly. The total length of the lizard is 18 to 21 centimeters.

The magnificent keel lizard can be found in the coastal areas from northern Italy to western Greece and on the Ionian Islands .

Way of life

The males form small territories that they defend. The females lay two to three eggs twice a year. The magnificent keel lizards feed on insects , spiders , worms and woodlice .
