The Peloponnesian quill lizard ( Algyroides moreoticus ) is a species within the families of the real lizards (Lacertidae). There are no known subspecies .
features
The small lizard has large, clearly keeled scales on top and a relatively long tail. The middle of the back, which is always monochrome, reddish-brown to dark-brown, is bounded on both sides by a yellowish stripe in the male . The yellow-green flanks are darkly marbled and the front legs are spotted with white. The females are mostly uniformly brown on top. The ventral side is whitish to pale green in both sexes.
The total length is around 15.6 centimeters with a head-torso length of around five centimeters.
Way of life
The Peloponnesian Kiel Lizard leads a terrestrial diurnal and extremely shy way of life. Hence, little is known about them. The mating season extends from April to July. For fertilization, the male fixes the female with a flank bite. The species reproduces through oviparia (laying eggs). The clutch comprises four to eight eggs. The young hatch in July / August. Little is known about ecology either. The lizard feeds on worms , insects , and spiders .
distribution
The lizard can be found on the Peloponnese and on three Ionian islands up to heights of 1000 meters above sea level .
habitat
As a habitat, it prefers quite dry rocky areas and biotopes rich in vegetation near water. Habitats with very little vegetation are avoided. As a culture follower , the species also penetrates agricultural land and gardens.
