Geoffrey Boleyn

Sir Geoffrey Boleyn (* 1406 ; † 1463 ) was an English merchant and knight.

Life

He was the son of Thomas Boleyn from Salle in Norfolk and his wife Anne Bracton.

He settled in London and achieved some prosperity initially as a hat maker and from 1429 as a cloth merchant . 1446-1447 he was Sheriff of London , 1449 MP for London in Parliament . 1457 to 1458 he was Lord Mayor of London and was by Henry VI. beaten to Knight Bachelor .

In 1452 he bought the Blickling estate in Norfolk . In 1462 he bought the Hever Castle in need of repair and converted it into a mansion .

He married Ann Hoo, daughter of Thomas Hoo, 1st Baron Hoo († 1455) from Hoo near Luton in Bedfordshire . They had three children:

  • Sir William Boleyn (1451–1505), ⚭ Lady Margaret Butler
  • Anne Boleyn, ⚭ Sir Henry Heydon († 1503)
  • Elizabeth Boleyn, ⚭ Sir John Fortescue († 1500)
