history

Former main building from the 1920s on the corner of Stresemann-Herforder Strasse

The Stadt-Sparkasse founded in 1825, the first predecessor of today's Sparkasse Bielefeld, is the oldest Sparkasse in Westphalia . In 1847 the district savings bank responsible for the Bielefeld district was founded. In 1903 the youngest of the previous savings banks was launched in Brackwede . In the 1920s, a remarkable new building, now classified as a monument, was built on Herford Street.

The Bielefeld law , which led to a municipal reorganization of the urban area, resulted in a merger of Stadt-Sparkasse Bielefeld, Kreis-Sparkasse Bielefeld and Städtische Sparkasse Brackwede to form today's Sparkasse Bielefeld. This opened its current headquarters on Schweriner Strasse in 1977.
