Spawn is a German death metal band from Berlin .

history

The band was founded in 1998 from the remnants of the Mortal Viruz group . Matt, No and Olli founded the group Mortal Viruz with Jan in 1998 and renamed Spawn a year later . During this time, Chrille also joined the band, who also contributed the bass to the recordings for the demo CD Headhunter . In the early days the sound was heavily influenced by bands like Six Feet Under or Bolt Thrower . Slow, rolling parts with catchy structures were the band's trademark. The band quickly established itself in the Berlin metal scene. Regular concerts were z. B. played in the Berlin club K17. In 2000 the band was reinforced by a second guitar. With Hardy (ex-Nuclear Tribunal) the sound became more complex, but also faster. Elements of Grindcore alternated with the typical groove elements.

2001 the label Bruchstein Records became aware of the band. The album Systems Full of Victims was recorded in the Orange / Headquarter Studio . The titles were presented at the Fuck the Commerce IV Festival and a subsequent tour of Germany with Krisiun . In 2002 a three-week European tour followed through ten countries with cryptopsy and haemorrhage . The band wrote on new titles that found their way on the next album Human Toxin . The East German label Morbid Records offered the band a recording contract and released the album in December 2004. In 2005 the band was able to present itself to a larger audience on the main stage of the With Full Force Festival.

In 2006 Dirk (ex- Postmortem ) joined the band as the new guitarist. Driven by fresh impulses, the band wrote again on new titles. Due to the line-up change and the collapse of Morbid Records, the recording process was delayed, so that the fourth album The Wicked Reincarnation was not released until 2009 . Marc (ex-Kadath) replaced Janice, who left the band in early 2009. In April 2011 four titles of a planned EP were recorded, but they were not used. At the beginning of 2013 the band separated from Dirk in order to continue as a quartet. In 2014 the band released the album Burning Mighty Empires, which should also be the last release. The band broke up in late 2014.
