Speedball (computer game)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Speedball is a video game that has elements of both a sports game and a simulation .

Gameplay

The principle of the game can best be described as a kind of handball set in the future . The game scenario was inspired by the 1975 film Rollerball . Each team consists of the team parts defense, midfield and attack. The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible than the opposing team in both halves. Both goals and injured eliminated players of the opposing team are counted. In the second part of the Speedball series, various options were added to collect additional points or to increase them through multipliers.

The computer player controls the various players on the team during a match. He has to try to score a goal through skillful passing play, fast running or "knocking out of the way" of the opponent. Between the individual games, the player can better equip the members of his team with the money acquired during the match in order to ultimately win the Speedball Cup.

There are 16 teams in total, divided into two leagues. The "humanoid" player controls the "Brutal Deluxe" team and starts in the 2nd division. The teams in the first division are called: SuperNashwan, Fatal Justice, Lethal Formula, Turbo Hammers, Explosive Lords, Mean Machine, Rage2000 and Powerhouse. (For the Playstation version, Rage2000 was renamed Rage2100.) The teams of the 2nd division: SteelFury, Damocles, The Renegades, Baroque, ViolentDesire, RawMessiahs and Revolver.
