Open pit residual lake with dam |
The Witznitz storage basin is a former open-cast mine residual lake of the Witznitz I opencast mine northwest of Borna and south of Leipzig in Saxony , which was converted into a flood retention basin from 1950 to 1954 . The memory is normally only partially filled. In the event of flooding, water from the Eula and Wyhra can be channeled into the reservoir. Between 1995 and 1997 the dam was repaired.
use
In addition to flood protection, the system is used to provide raw water for the Lippendorf power station , commercial fishing, water sports and recreational activities. Boating without a motor is permitted on the lake.
