The Spencer Park Dentzel Carousel , also known as the Riverside Park Dentzel Carousel or Logansport Carousel , is a Grade I listed carousel at an amusement park in Logansport , Cass County , Indiana .

The carousel was probably made between 1900 and 1903, possibly earlier. This makes it one of the oldest surviving rides from the Dentzel Carousel Company , which pioneered this industry in the United States. The company was founded in 1867 by the from Bad Kreuznach coming German Americans founded Gustav A. Dentzel in Philadelphia and existed until 1929. The Spencer Park Dentzel Carousel consists of 42 wooden animal models that are placed in three rows side by side. There are thirty-one horses, three goats, three reindeer , three giraffes, a lion and a tiger.

The carousel was used as a mobile device at fairs from 1903 to 1905 , after which it remained in Fort Wayne until 1919 . It then found its new home in Spencer Park in Logansport until it was relocated to Riverside Park in the same location in 1949. After the death of the last owner in 1969, the carousel remained out of service until 1972. That year, a local private initiative initiated by Frank Callipo acquired the carousel for $ 15,000 and donated it to the non-profit organization Cass County Carousel, Inc. , which has since operated it through summer ticket sales and financed restoration work.

On February 27, 1987, the Spencer Park Dentzel Carousel was declared a National Historic Landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places .

In 1993, Cass County Carousel, Inc. had raised enough donations to finance a full restoration of the carousel for $ 700,000, including restoring the animal models to their original color. These measures were carried out in Mansfield and lasted just under four months. In 1995 the McHale Community Complex was built , which encloses the carousel as a building.
