Spencer Wilton
Spencer Wilton (born February 1, 1973 ) is a British dressage rider .
Life
Wilton grew up in Suffolk . He started riding in a pony club. First he turned to eventing . In 1987 he participated as an individual rider in the European Pony Championships for eventing riders. Two years later he left school and worked as a “working pupil” with Ruth McMullen, Lucinda Green and Mark Todd .
In the 1990s he got to know Carl Hester , during which time he switched to dressage. In the mid-1990s, Wilton moved to the Hester facility. Here he took over the ride from Fantastic Elastic , with which he won the "Elementary National Championships" for the first time in 1999. In the following years he worked his way up to Grand Prix level. 2006 saw several significant events in his sports career: He won a Grand Prix Spécial for the first time , took his first internationally advertised test at the CDI Hartpury and was also given the opportunity to take part in the British Nations Cup Dressage at Hickstead with the chestnut gelding Dolendo . He also achieved second place in the British championships (Grand Prix / Grand Prix Freestyle) with Dolendo . This was followed by further starts at Grand Prix level with Dolendo in 2006 and 2007 , for the first time also at international tournaments outside of Great Britain.
At the end of 2007, Carl Hester took over from Dolendo . Wilton did not take part in international tournaments for almost six years, he now runs his own riding stable. In August 2013 he competed in the CDI 3 * tour of Dressage at Hickstead for the first time with the then 10-year-old gelding Super Nova II , here still at Prix St. Georges / Intermediaire I level. Since spring 2014, Wilton has been presenting the gelding internationally at Grand Prix level.
With the gelding Numberto , taken over by Severo Jurado López , he reached third place in the Grand Prix Freestyle at the British Championships in 2014 and represented Great Britain in the Nations Cups in Rotterdam and Hickstead.
Increasingly, however, Super Nova II developed into his top horse. At the CDIO Hagen 2015 both took fourth place in the Grand Prix Spécial with 73.137%. In 2016, Spencer Wilton's Super Nova II received mostly over 70 percent ratings in Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special. These results earned him the nomination for his first international dressage championship, the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . Here he finished 21st in the individual ranking with Super Nova II and was part of the British team that won the team silver medal.
Wilton's temporary partner was the British dressage rider Carl Hester.
