Spider-Man / Batman is a crossover between the US comic publishers Marvel and DC , created by Jean Marc DeMatteis , Mark Bagley and Mark Farmer .

The story begins with Peter Parker (Spider-Man) and Bruce Wayne (Batman) waking up from their sleep. Both had a nightmare from the scene that led them to make up their minds on their superhero careers. So Peter Parker dreamed of the death of his uncle Ben and Bruce Wayne, that his parents were shot in front of his eyes.
Spider-Man is called to the Ravencroft Institute , where he witnesses how the crazy serial killer Cletus Kasady is implanted with a computer chip in the brain that is supposed to make him peaceful. Despite his and Dr. Kafka's concerns, the behavioral psychologist Cassandra Briar also carries out this procedure on the Joker , who has just been brought back to the Arkham Asylum by Batman . At first it seems to work, but when Briar has both Kasady and the Joker brought to a car, the former becomes Carnage. His symbiote deactivated the chip in his head and was just waiting for a good opportunity to escape. When Carnage threatens Briar, Batman and Spider-Man join in and save the psychologist. Carnage escapes and takes the Joker, whose chip he also destroys with the help of his symbiote.
Batman refuses Spider-Man's help at first, but after an investigation of Carnage's data and also Spider-Man's presence while rescuing a woman in a back alley, he decides to take him away.
Carnage and the Joker split up because they have different views on killing. While Carnage kills people indiscriminately, the Joker relies more on style and planning. So he escapes through a secret passage and blows up the warehouse from which he escaped with a remote detonator. At that moment, Batman and Spider-Man arrive on site, as they were able to find him using a chip tracking device in the Batmobile . As Spider-Man feared, Carnage survived the explosion and now wants to kill Batman. The Joker is added because he believes that only he has the right to kill Batman. He threatens to release a virus that will kill everyone in Gotham City . Confused by this, Carnage's concentration drops so that Batman can overwhelm him. The joker, on the other hand, is captured by Spider-Man.
In the end, the heroes shake hands on the roof of a building, then say goodbye and part in the darkness.
