Vladimir "Spider" Sabich (born January 10, 1945 in Kyburz , California , † March 21, 1976 in Aspen , Colorado ) was an American ski racer . Sabich belonged to the generation of successful skiers who helped popularize alpine skiing in the USA from the mid-1960s.

Sabich came from a family of Croatian immigrants. From March 1967 he took part in the races of the Ski World Cup. The only World Cup victory of his career (a slalom) he achieved on April 7, 1968 in Heavenly Valley . By December 1969, he was able to place in the top three in three other World Cup slaloms . In 1968 he took part in the Winter Olympics in Grenoble and reached fifth place in the slalom.

On March 21, 1976, Sabich was shot dead by his own gun in the bathroom of his home. According to the evidence, this act is said to have been committed by his girlfriend, the French singer and actress Claudine Longet . In the criminal trial she was acquitted, but found guilty in the subsequent civil trial.
