The Spiegel building Ericusspitze is a skyscraper in Hamburg's HafenCity in the Brooktorkai / Ericus quarter and has been used by the Spiegel Group as the company's headquarters since 2012. The design comes from the Copenhagen architectural office Henning Larsen Architects .

building

The 13-storey high-rise has a massive base and a gross floor area of around 30,000 square meters. The shape of the glass facade is intended to symbolize the framework around the 1100 Spiegel employees who work here. At night, the glowing red “snack bar” by Verner Panton stands out. Its counterpart, the Spiegel canteen , is exhibited in the Hamburg Museum of Art and Industry .

The interior of the building is organized like an atrium house in which several bridges provide direct connections. This is intended to promote communication between employees. The exterior, single-storey offices alternate with open areas that are twice as high and are connected to one another via interior galleries.

According to the investor, the building's energy and technology concept should also take into account aspects of ecology, economic efficiency and social compatibility. Air conditioning and conventional radiators were not used. The room climate is regulated by a naturally ventilated double facade with integrated sun protection, a heating and cooling sail on the ceiling of each office and a concrete core activation supplied by the geothermal system in the floor slab of each storey. With these measures, the primary energy consumption should be less than 100 kilowatt hours per square meter per year.

history

In 2006, after 40 years in Hamburg, the Spiegel Group announced that it would combine the corporate divisions, such as Spiegel TV and Spiegel Online , which are distributed across the city in a new building on the Ericusspitze.

In cooperation with the Spiegel Group, HafenCity Hamburg and the Authority for Urban Development and the Environment, two property development companies developed an urban planning competition in which 13 international architecture firms took part. In 2007, the design by the Copenhagen office of Henning Larsen Architects for the new Spiegel building and the neighboring "Ericus-Contors" received an award.

The lease for the future building between the owner and Spiegel was signed in the summer of 2007 for a period of 15 years. The foundation stone for the building took place in May 2008; the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on October 25, 2010. The building was occupied in September 2011.
