Mirror tent
A mirror tent (Flemish: mirrored), also called the mirror palace , is a transportable event hall made of wood and canvas , which is reminiscent of a circus tent in terms of shape and mobility . The original place of origin of the mirror tents is Belgium.
history
At the beginning of the 20th century, the mirror tents were primarily used as dance palaces ( danspaleis ) or as a place for wine tasting. An early operator was Oscar Horebeke from Antwerp , who set up a mirror tent at annual fairs. Willem Klessens bought his first tent from him. The Klessens family has also been traveling with the Kempisch danspaleis to fair fairs between Lommel , Mol and Balen since 1935 . To date, as of 2011, it operates nine mirror tents, including the Kempisch danspaleis and the Cristal Palace (1947) from the first half of the 20th century.
Seven or eight specimens are said to have survived from the early days of the mirror tents. These include The Grand Spiegelent , The Famous Spendetent (1920) and Le moulin rouge (1910). The Berlin bar of every reason is housed in a mirror tent from 1912.
Equipment and use
There are also a few new buildings that follow the historical models in terms of furnishings. Despite their temporary lingering space, mirror tents are usually lavishly furnished; the wooden outer walls are often interspersed with lead glass and the interior decorated with velvet. Some offer a stage in addition to the dance floor. Faceted glass or mirrors allow visitors to easily make eye contact and thus start a flirt if necessary .

Culture
The mirror tents have enjoyed a new appreciation since the 1970s thanks to various music and theater festivals. The first scene of Volker Braun's Iphigenie in Freiheit takes place in a mirror tent.
