Stoies is part of the market town of Vitis in Lower Austria . According to its settlement structure, it is a broad street village .

The place name is derived as a genitive from the Slavic personal name "Stojans". It was first mentioned in documents in 1417 under the name "Stoyans" in the land register of Hardegg, Pulkau, Schrems. With interruptions, land, village and regional courts belonged to the rule of Schrems . In the Middle Ages it was mentioned several times in connection with the award of tithes.

The Roman Catholic chapel was consecrated in 1932.
