history

Population development

The place name Jaudling was first mentioned in 1150 as “Laurnich”, the place name being derived from the Slavic “maple”. The originally Slavic village, however, is likely to have been in a different location than the current location. The situation of the village around 1400 can no longer be precisely traced from the sources that have survived. While a document from 1393 reports about a desolate "Hofstat" located on the desolate "Jaurnik in Waidhofner gericht", the place Jaudling was settled in 1417 and belongs with all its rights to the rule of Schrems. It is unclear whether “the desolate Jaurnik” is the later town of Jaudling. Possibly the place was acquired by Schrems after 1393 and repopulated, whereby the parish of the place after Schrems speaks for this. In 1417 "Yewrung" had 25 houses again, with ten fiefs, five half-fiefs and ten farms among the dwellings. In 1595 the rule of Schrems took the whole tenth of two fiefs, two half-lives, four farmsteads, two overland fields and a "Gärtl". Schrems also benefited proportionately from three fiefdoms. The Schrems parish also had tithes in Jaudling, with the parish leasing its rights to the rule of Heinreich in 1664. The rule of Jeinreich had extensive holdings in Jaudling in the 17th century, including a "Schlößl" consisting of two subject houses with a Mayrhof and a sheep farm as well as meadows, forests and fields. An inn, the Hofmühle and the bath were also owned by the Heinreichs, and Jaudling also belonged to the Heinreichs in terms of court. Before the abolition of the manor, however, all houses in the village belonged to the Schrems manor.

In the early 19th century, Jaudling also received a schoolhouse, which was replaced by a new building in 1877. The primary school was closed in 1972 and was housed in house number 47. In 1928 there were also two blacksmiths, a general store and a tobacco shop in the place, but these also disappeared due to the sharp decline in population. Although the number of houses grew from 25 to 38 between 1590/91 and 1796 and thereafter to 48 and 60 houses respectively by 1951 and 2000, at the same time the number of residents fell by more than 40% between 1848 and 2000.

In the political field, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) dominates the election results, analogous to the municipal level. For example, the ÖVP in the Jaudling district in the municipal council election 2010 achieved 87% (municipality result: 70%) and the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) 13% (municipality result: 30%). In 2005 public transport had reached 88%.

Buildings

The place Jaudling is a double-row village with a ridge-like extension in the east. The local chapel was built around 1800 and consists of a flat-roofed structure with pointed arched windows and a retracted apse as well as an axially adjoining sacristy and an envisioned facade tower with a pointed arch portal and a pointed helmet. The chapel tower also has a niche figure of Saint Florian . The chapel dedicated to Saint Florian burned down in 1885 and was then rebuilt and consecrated again in 1888. The interior of the chapel is adorned by a neo-baroque vine frame altar, which is flanked by seated figures of Saints Francis of Assisi and Anthony of Padua . The altarpiece shows the coronation of Mary.
