Spiez-Frutigen railway
The Spiez-Frutigen-Bahn was a Swiss railway company . They built and operated the line from Spiez to Frutigen in the Kandertal .
The concession for the route Spiez-Frutigen was on 27 June 1890 by the Federal Assembly approved with the caveat that they attach construction of Lötschbergbahn was to take from this.
In mid-June 1899, construction of the Hondricht tunnel began. The line was opened on June 24, 1901 . On January 1, 1907, it became the property of the Bernese Alpine Railway Company Bern – Lötschberg – Simplon (BLS).
business
An operating contract was concluded with the Thunerseebahn (TSB), according to which the rolling stock also had to meet the needs of the TSB. For economic reasons, a train run on the Spiez-Erlenbach-Bahn (SEB) was also planned from the start. As a result, the rolling stock was oversized for its own branch line .
Rolling stock
At the end of 1906, the SFB owned the following vehicles :
- 2 type Ec 4/5 steam locomotives (1901)
- 7 passenger cars
- 1 B (2nd axle 1905)
- 4 BC (2nd axis 1901)
- 2 C (2nd axis from 1905)
- 1 baggage car (1901)
- 28 freight cars
- 22 boxcars (8 G, 14 K (1899))
- 6 gondolas (6 L (1899))
The high number of freight wagons is derived from the fact that four freight wagons per operating kilometer had to be provided to join the Swiss Freight Car Association. In the case of the SFB, the number of cars to be provided was therefore set at 29. The baggage carts were allowed to be included in this number.
