The Spitzer Graben is a side valley of the Danube Valley , which leads north near Spitz (Lower Austria) towards the Waldviertel . It is traversed by the Spitzer Bach, which flows into the Danube near the western end of Spitz.

Landmarks in the Spitzer Graben are the municipality of Spitz belonging Gut am Steg , Zornberg , Vießling and pointed to himself and Mühldorf belonging Elsarn and Mühldorf itself.

The historical significance of the Spitzer Graben lies on the one hand in the well-preserved Oberranna Castle with its famous early medieval crypt and, later, in its significance as one of the few places with graphite mining .

The area belongs to the Wachau wine-growing region ( viticulture in Austria ) and the Wachau World Heritage Site. Today the Spitzer Graben is known for its wine and fruit growing . Above all, the white wine varieties Riesling , Neuburger and Grüner Veltliner thrive on the steep stone terraces.

Tourism in the region begins around Easter with the apricot blossom and continues until the grape harvest in late autumn.
