It is also known as Boulengers pointed- nosed snake , Boulengers Schnauzennatter or Vietnamese long-nosed snake , but must not be confused with the long-nosed snake ( Rhinocheilus lecontei ) from America.

features

This snake reaches a length of about 110-160 cm. As a young animal it is colored steel gray and slowly turns green after approx. 12-14 months. Their most noticeable feature is the long, flexible snout, which is what gives them their name. From the pointed snout, a fine black line runs through the eye to the neck. The throat and the shields of the upper lip are whitish to light green.

distribution

Their homeland is northern Vietnam and southern China . There it lives mostly in subtropical forests, where it lives primarily on bushes and in the lower regions of trees.

behavior

The main activity time of the pointy-nosed snake is the night. Their prey consists mainly of small mammals such as mice, as well as reptiles and amphibians . But young birds , insects and even fish are also on the menu. They reach sexual maturity at almost two years of age and are not tied to a fixed mating season. After successful mating, the female lays five to ten eggs in a protected place, usually in a hollow . The young snakes hatch after about 90 days and take care of themselves from the start.
