August Max Fiedler
August Max Fiedler (born December 31, 1859 in Zittau , Oberlausitz , † December 1, 1939 in Stockholm ) was a German conductor, composer and pianist.
He received lessons from his father, the Sorbian music teacher Karl August Fiedler , and later at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1877 to 1880 with G. Albrecht. From 1882 to 1908 he was a professor at the Hamburg Conservatory . In 1904 he also became the conductor of the Philharmonic there . He went on extensive concert tours. After his American debut in 1905, he made frequent appearances with the New York Philharmonic . From 1908 to 1912 Fiedler was director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra . After his return to Germany he became general music director of the city of Essen. He held this office until 1934. In the last years of his life he worked as a guest conductor mainly in Berlin and Stockholm.
