history

Until 1945

The history of sports radio in Germany is closely linked to the development of radio since 1923.

A rowing regatta in Münster in the summer of 1925 is considered to be the first German sports broadcast on radio. However, this is considered controversial.

On November 1, 1925, Bernhard Ernst gave the first live commentary on a football match between Preußen Münster and Arminia Bielefeld on the radio.

The first international soccer match that could be broadcast on the radio was the match between Germany and the Netherlands on April 18, 1926 in Düsseldorf .

Sports radio broadcasting reached its first high point during the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.

After 1945

In the 1980s, RTL Radio had a Bundesliga radio broadcast, the RTL Torparade, at which Fritz Walter also moderated and announced the goals that had fallen.

Today, sports programs continue to have a high number of listeners. There are e.g. B. the Bundesliga conference of WDR 2 for all ARD radio waves, which reports live on all games of the Bundesliga . There is also live coverage on the radio for the European Football Championship and the Football World Cup. B. on the radio station WDR Event .
