Sprelacart is a brand name for special synthetic resin- bonded laminate panels that originated in the GDR .

history

The manufacturing process for Sprelacart was developed in 1919 in the Römmler works in Spremberg and the product was named Resopal in 1930 . When the Römmler works in Spremberg were dismantled as part of the reparations payments to the Soviet Union , some employees founded a new company in Groß-Umstadt, Hesse , which was soon producing Resopal again. Those returning from the war also rebuilt a plant in Spremberg. Their product, identical to the western one, has been called Sprelacart since 1955 - made up of Spre mberg , La minat and Cart on .

The laminate is still produced today under the brand name SprelaCart in Spremberg, where it is processed, among other things, into heat- and chemical-resistant, scratch-resistant kitchen worktops . The company that makes the product is called Sprela GmbH. After a takeover by the Austrian Isomax Dekorative Laminate AG (as a subsidiary of Constantia Iso AG) in 2004, Sprela GmbH was bought by the Kronospan Group in September 2007 and the decades-long laminate production continued at the Spremberg location.

Sprelacart was best known in the GDR as a manufacturer of kitchen, school and laboratory furniture as well as wall coverings, which were characterized by easy and hygienic cleaning of the surfaces. Built- in furniture with this coating was used especially in the kitchen cells of the prefabricated buildings from the 1950s to 1970s.
