As Springer are students referred, due to their over-qualification a class skip. At some larger schools there are so-called jumper classes .

Responsible for the increasing establishment of such jumpers' classes is, on the one hand, the model of more differentiated, individual support with correspondingly different length courses at general schools . It is the second also a reaction to the often negative Rated fact that German high school graduates compared with first-year students in other OECD are -Staaten significantly older.

For some jumpers the fact that they often encounter a negative attitude from their older classmates in the same year and are teased as "elite students" is problematic during their school days . “Jumping” is also problematic for younger students, who as a result get into an environment that they are academically but not yet able to cope with socially and emotionally.

An alternative to skipping a grade level, e.g. In the United States, for example, preference is often given to supplementing the curriculum of gifted students with enrichment programs, for which the students concerned are taken out of the class on an hourly basis and taught in small groups. In American schools, enrichment programs are often available from grade 2 onwards. Admission to the funding program is preceded by an intelligence test .
