The springboard in the 1980s was a Saturday evening television show on GDR television , in which Hartmut Schulze-Gerlach (“Muck”) presented young up-and-coming GDR artists as a presenter. The mostly first television appearance of the young talents made them known to a wider audience as part of a television competition. The da capo of the respective program was given to the artist who was most popular with the audience, which was determined by the audience's letters. With his one-time re-election within this broadcast format, the second appearance on television followed, this time as a guest on the next broadcast.

After this “entry ticket” for GDR television, it was mostly “passed on” to the presenter Jürgen Karney . His show Bong in the 1980s (1983-1989) had replaced the Schlager studio of the GDR in the 1970s with the presenter Chris Wallasch and was a rating show on the GDR pop charts as a recorded live broadcast on Thursdays was broadcast on GDR television. After three successful re-elections, again by the audience, the winning title was awarded the Silver Bong .

Thus, in the 1980s, many young talents and mostly still known artists from the GDR began a career as a media artist typical of the GDR.
