The Ständehaus in Ehingen an der Donau , a city in the southeast of Baden-Württemberg , is the dominant building on the market square of the small Swabian town. It was built in 1750 - one year after the great city fire - in the late Baroque style in place of the former pharmacy and stands out with its brightly colored facade elements in ocher and the green shutters. The conference room on the second floor is decorated with Rococo cartridges and stucco. The Austrian double eagle is emblazoned under the gable .

After the Thirty Years' War Ehingen was the permanent seat of the Swabian-Austrian provincial estates of Upper Austria . Between 1769 and 1805 the building served as an office building, meeting place and archive of the estates. When, after the Napoleonic Wars, Upper Austria went to Bavaria and Württemberg in the Peace of Pressburg , the Oberamt Ehingen came to the newly created Kingdom of Württemberg , while the eastern part with Günzburg became part of Bavaria.

The building occupies the entire east side of the market square and today serves as a district court with an attached land registry and notary's office.

Marketplace

Opposite is the baroque Ellenbacher Hof, the former “Schlösschen am Markt” of the Erbachers . Burned down by French troops in 1688, it was then rebuilt and stuccoed on the ceiling. Classicist paintings on mythological subjects can be seen on the ground floor .

On the north side of the architecturally stylish square was the Marienbrunnen, built in 1713 by Austrian donors, which was dismantled in 1877 after Ehingen had received a water supply. In 1987 the Theodul fountain was inaugurated, dedicated to the city's patron and his bell legend with the devil . In addition to the gargoyles underneath, scenes from rural and urban life as well as the "splash muck" are shown, the main character of the Ehinger Fasnet.
