The Stölpchensee is located in the south of the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf in the Wannsee district , between the Pohlesee in the east, with which it is connected by a nearly 300 meter long canal, and the Griebnitzsee in the south, with which it is connected by a 600 meter long canal connected is. Both canal connections are - not officially - also referred to with the former name of the canal “ Prinz-Friedrich-Leopold-Kanal ”. The Stölpchensee is part of the federal waterway Griebnitz Canal, which legally belongs to the Teltow Canal. The Berlin Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible . The water mainly flows from the Teltow Canal over the Stölpchensee towards the Großer Wannsee .

In the east the lake borders the Alsenbrücke. On the north side, right by the bridge, there was a famous outdoor swimming pool, including a hotel, which was destroyed in the Second World War. Stolpe , the former settlement focus in Wannsee, is located right on the northern bank of the lake. Wilhelmplatz and a Protestant church from 1859 are still located there today.

The Stölpchensee restaurant-pavilion and, to the south, the Söhnelhof with canoe and rowing boat rental are right on the lake.
