Pohlesee

The Pohlesee is located in the south of the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf in the Wannsee district . As part of the federal waterway Griebnitz Canal, which is legally part of the Teltow Canal, it is directly connected to the Kleiner Wannsee on its east side and to the west by a 300 meter long canal with the Stölpchensee . The water mainly flows from the Teltow Canal over the Stölpchensee into the Pohlesee and from there on to the Kleiner Wannsee in the direction of the Großer Wannsee , but also vice versa. The Berlin Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible .

Before installation of 1869 by the banker Wilhelm Conrad realized Villenkolonie "Alsen" the Pohlesee carried along with the Kleine Wannsee the name Stolp MOORISH hole or tripping hole - after the western village of Stolpe . Since this name was not very representative, the lake was renamed and conceptually divided at its narrowest point, which is formed by the Wehrhorn peninsula . The western section was named Pohlesee , the northeast section the name Kleiner Wannsee . There are numerous berths for yachts as well as some private properties.

One of the most representative buildings on the Pohlesee is the former Villa Joerger on the Wehrhorn. It was built in 1906 by the architects Alfred Breslauer and Paul Salinger for the Berlin banker Carl Joerger as a summer residence in the style of Brandenburg mansions with a coach house and horse stable on a spacious, carefully designed lake property. In May 1945, Carl Joergers was shot dead by Soviet soldiers in his country house when he stood protectively in front of his valuable wine collection. His widow Elisabeth died just a few weeks later. Today, as the Wannsee Forum , the property is an educational facility for international youth work .
