In 1947, US authorities founded the “Camp of Wannsee” in the banker's villa, which was built between 1906 and 1908, as a contribution to the democratization of Germany. In 1951, the heirs of the Joerger family of bankers sold the entire ensemble of country house, coach house and park to the McCloy Fund as the permanent seat of a youth education center. In the same year, on February 14, 1951, after the denazification was announced and entered into force, the house and property were handed over to the German association “Wannseeheim für Jugendarbeit e. V “by John McCloy , High Commissioner in Germany, and Ernst Reuter , Berlin Mayor. The facade of the building and the representative chimney room were extensively renovated by April 2005.

Architectural history

The ensemble, consisting of the main building, the coach house and a spacious park, is one of the first of the large country houses in and around Berlin that are typical of the Breslauer & Salinger architectural association . They implemented elements of the architecture of Brandenburg mansions, taking into account the country house introduced by Paul Mebes in the sense of "building around 1800" in sophisticated residential architecture for rich industrialists of the imperial era.
