Stöttingfjället stretches across the municipalities of Lycksele , Vilhelmina , Storuman and Åsele in Västerbotten County . The height of the plateau is between 400 and 700 m. The highest point is the Alsberget at 716 m. The plateau is characterized by glacial shapes. A number of smaller lakes, including Stor Arasjön , are located in the upper area of Stöttingfjället. The rivers Öreälven , Lögdeälven and Gideälven have their origin in the mountain range. The Umeälven runs east of Stöttingsfjället, and the Ångermanälven runs west . The area is strongly dominated by spruce forests. At the highest points, however, there are birch forests with a subalpine character. There are several nature reserves in Stöttingfjället.
