The Gideälven is a 225 km long river in the Swedish provinces of Västerbottens län and Västernorrlands län .

course

The river has its source on the Stöttingfjället , a high plateau at an altitude of 400 to 700 meters above sea level in southern Lapland . It is the watershed between the Lögdeälven and the Ångermanälven on the south side and between the Umeälven and the Öreälven in the north. In the upper reaches the river is called Gigån . A larger tributary of the Gideälven is the Flärkån .
