St-André is a Roman Catholic church in Yainville in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region . The Romanesque church has been classified as a monument historique since 1846 .

history

The Saint-André church with its single-nave Romanesque nave dates back to the 11th century and is dedicated to St. Andrew the Apostle . The nave is adjoined by a massive choir tower from the 12th century with the choir in the tower basement, with a semicircular apse in the east. In 1210 Pope Innocent III. the possession of the church of the Jumièges abbey is confirmed. After the French Revolution , the church was used as a barn and thus got into a poor structural condition, which almost led to the building being demolished. The residents of Yainville were finally able to restore the church, where a clergyman had been working again since 1851. In the 19th century the sacristy was added to the north side .
