St-Mathurin (also: Notre-Dame et Saint-Mathurin ) is a Roman Catholic parish church in Moncontour in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany . The church has been classified as a monument historique since 1889 .

history

The core of the parish church of St-Mathurin goes back to the 16th century and was built in place of a previous building dedicated to Our Lady ( Notre-Dame ). The oldest parts are the north wall with large tracery windows and a portal in the flamboyant Gothic style . The church tower was demolished in 1584 and rebuilt by 1587.

Today's church presents itself with a spacious interior with a wider central nave, which is separated from a south aisle, which was added in 1620, by high columns with wide arcade arches. The recently closed choir goes back to restoration measures in 1719. Between 1733 and 1739 the pillars and roof were raised. In 1786 the church received the representative west facade according to plans by Antoine Guiber. The church has a number of important stained glass inside, which are classified as individual objects as Monument historique and were created between 1520 and 1540.
