Root Jesse window in Moncontour

The Wurzel-Jesse window in the Catholic Church of St-Mathurin in Moncontour , a French commune in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the Brittany region , was created between 1530 and 1540. In 1862 the stained glass window was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .

The three-part window in the choir with a height of about five meters and a width of about 1.90 meters was created by an unknown workshop. It shows the root of Jesse , a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is represented in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse . Above is the crowned Madonna and Child in a halo.

The window was restored in 1891/93 by the Albert Bonnot workshop, with some parts being added.

In addition to the Wurzel-Jesse window , five other windows from the Renaissance period have been preserved in the church (see navigation bar).
