Root Jesse Window in Clermont

The Wurzel Jesse window in the Catholic parish church of St-Samson in Clermont , a parish in the Oise department of the Hauts-de-France region , was created in the mid-16th century. In 1906, the stained glass window was added to the list of protected objects ( Base Palissy ) in France as Monument historique .

The root of Jesse is a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is shown in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse , the father of King David . Jesse is shown asleep and the following branches of the tree appear to David and another eleven kings of Israel. The conclusion is the representation of Mary with child. In the tracery is God the Father visible.

The three meter wide and seven meter high window no.11, which consists of three lancets, was restored by Atelier Gsell in 1863.

In addition to the Wurzel-Jesse window , five other windows from the 16th century have been preserved in the church.
