The Wurzel-Jesse window in the Catholic parish church of St-Gervais-St-Protais in the French capital Paris was created in 1531. In 1905 the stained glass window was classified as a Monument historique .

description

The tympanum of the window in the Lady Chapel was created by Robert Pinaigrier. The lower part of the window with scenes from the life of Mary was remade in 1841.

The root of Jesse is a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is shown in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse , the father of King David . Jesse is shown asleep and the following branches of the tree appear to David and another eleven kings of Israel . The conclusion is the representation of Mary with child.

The window was restored and completed by Caspar Gsell in 1845.
