Root Jesse Window (Malestroit)
The Root Jesse Window in the Catholic Church of St-Gilles in Malestroit , a French parish in the Morbihan department in the Brittany region , was created in the 16th century. The stained glass window was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique in 1912 .
The tracery window above the south portal was created by an unknown workshop. It shows the root of Jesse , a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is represented in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse .
The two coats of arms, left and right at the top of the window, are reminiscent of the founder Jean de Laval-Châteaubriant (1487–1543), the landlord of Malestroit and from 1531 governor of Brittany .
In addition to the Wurzel-Jesse window , other windows from the Renaissance period have been preserved in the church.
