Root Jesse Window (La Martyre)
The Wurzel-Jesse window in the Catholic parish church of St-Salomon in La Martyre , a French parish in the Finistère department in Brittany , was created in the second quarter of the 16th century.
The three-part window in the choir comes from an unknown workshop. The root of Jesse is a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is shown in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse , the father of King David . Jesse is shown asleep and the following branches of the tree appear to David and another eleven kings of Israel . The conclusion is the representation of Mary with child in the tracery , which was added to the restoration in 1994.
During the restoration in 1994, missing parts in the tracery and below were supplemented with colored panes.
In addition to the Wurzel-Jesse window , three other windows from the Renaissance period have been preserved in the church (see navigation bar).
