Root Jesse Window in Confort Meilars

The Root Jesse window in the Notre-Dame Catholic Church in Confort-Meilars , a French commune in the Finistère department in the Brittany region , was created around 1530. The leaded glass window was added to the list of architectural monuments in France in 1906 as Monument historique .

It shows the root of Jesse , a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is represented in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse . The founder Alain de Rosmadec is kneeling at the bottom left, next to him the prophet Jeremiah is depicted. His wife, Jeanne du Chastel, can be seen symmetrically on the far right, accompanied by the prophet Isaiah . At the top, Jesus is depicted on the cross , with the apostle John to the right . The tracery shows the heart of Jesus and two angels making music.

The window was restored in 1994 and partially supplemented.

In addition to the Wurzel-Jesse window , the Childhood of Jesus window from the Renaissance period has been preserved in the church.
